Growth and development
We actively encourage our team to move forward with their professional development, whether it be a secondment into a different department, support with ongoing training, taking on new exam challenges, or structured CPD. We take the view that today’s trainees will be tomorrow’s managers (hopefully still at Ground Control UK) and hence look to provide the appropriate training to support the team in their chosen career path, and due to the high number of qualified staff we have, there is always someone to turn to for guidance and advice.
The Process
Starting out as an apprentice in either our bookkeeping, business management, or tax departments, you will develop the basic skills needed to undertake your day-to-day role in the company, training for the AAT or ATT qualification.
Once you understand the basics and have shown the desire and skills needed, there will normally be the opportunity to progress to more complex accountancy or tax work, which often involves working within the different departments to expand your experiences as far as possible.
Having passed your AAT or ATT exams, hopefully you would want to progress onto the harder ACA, ACCA, or CTA exams, enabling you to call yourself a chartered accountant or chartered tax advisor. By this stage, we would expect you to be moving towards a more supervisory role.
Having trained and qualified at Ground Control UK, we would hope that you would want to stay with us and take up a managerial role when the time is right for both you and us.

“I joined Ground Control UK as an Accounts Associate back in August 2020, after graduating from the University of Plymouth with a First in BA Accounting and Finance. Over the course of the next year or so, I played an important role in the growing accounts team. My main tasks were to prepare both company accounts and corporation tax returns, as well as sole trade accounts. After a few months, I then started my journey to become a Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW. As there are a range of exams covering different areas of accountancy and tax, I was given the opportunity to take on responsibilities in the tax team, which included the preparation of personal tax returns and more advanced corporate tax for group companies.
“In April 2022, I was promoted to Senior Accounts Associate, which was then quickly followed by another promotion in October 2022 to Accounts Supervisor. In this role, I manage the team's workflow and review accounts, corporation tax returns, and VAT returns. But one of the most exciting aspects of the role is that I have started to build my own portfolio of clients, which is putting me in good stead to look towards becoming a manager in the near future.”
